I can’t stand cakes

Now, you wouldn’t think a cake stand would be such an issue, would you? They generally cost about £20 to hire (with anything up to £75 refundable deposit) - the issue is getting them back. So we’ve tasked the brides mother to try and sort that one out - at least the place of hire will then be close to the venue and therefore easier to return. Hmmm.

We’ve decided on an order of service and I’ve even knocked up a design for one. We just need to confirm the final details with the minster.

Speaking of whom, we’ve spoken to the minster and arranged a rehearsal, plus various “meetings” we have to attend. It means a number of weekends of driving to Hull and back (wasn’t that a song by The Darkness?) for a couple of hours.

Ooo, and did I say we had a meeting at Christmas to organise the choir and the songs they’ll sing? No, well I have now. What they’ll be is… a surprise. But who’d have thought they knew the works of The Prodigy?

It’s Captcha’d my imagination

A poor pun I’ll admit. The Captcha system I use on some of my sites is a simple freeware third party script - long term I want to write my own, improved version.

Someone give me a nudge sometime and remind me to do it!

BMTG goes online

The BMTG website now has an on-line ticket ordering system.

As it’s early days to see how much income it produces, I’ve gone for the easy option - a one way interface with PayPal, who are also providing simple cart facilities.

The ticket screen has been updated and a new MySQL back-end database has been introduced. The ticket screen now automatically produces ticket details, with PayPal links, for multiple shows. It will even remove a performance after the date has passed.

Longer term, if it all takes off, I might implement my own system where you can pick seats from a map, and we can control ticket availability. But that’s to come. Potentially.

Meantime I continue to “have discussions” with the committee over how much they charge customers for buying on-line.

A new year and lots done

Yes, the first few weeks of 2007 have been busy.

The caterers have been contacted and details hammered out (although I do have to get back to them to confirm some things).

The rings have been bought.

And the invites have been finished and sent out. They went 2nd class on Tuesday but many people received there’s the next day.

This week we’ll be calling the minster to sort out details for rehearsals, order of service and the like. More details as they happen!

You Couldn’t Make It Up

GMTV, I think it was ,were talking yesterday about Kate Middleton, girlfriend of Prince William. They were talking about how she had been hounded by the media, how intrusive they were, etc.

So to discuss it further they went over live to their reporter… outside Kate Middleton’s home.

They wouldn’t have spotted the irony if it came and slapped them in the face.
