Revolve Picture Frames

On the run up to Christmas I was a bit stuck for a friend’s present. Thankfully an article in a PC magazine lead me the Revolve website. There they recycle everyday items into new, funky (and just a touchy geeky) products.

In this case I bought a photo frame made from an old circuit board.

Anyway, it was a week before Christmas and there wasn’t anything on their website about Christmas deliveries, so I called them. I was immediately answered (no menus to wade through or hold music) by a very polite lady who told me that it was already the last day I could order in time. However, she asked me what I was ordering so she could start wrapping it ready. I told her and then ordered from the website – the frame came just a few days later in plenty of time for Christmas.

The photo frame is excellent and at a really good price. They’re obviously a small outfit, but one that I think should get more attention.

I’m after a clipboard for that ultimate geek look…

The joy of colds

Last week I had a cold – much better than last year when I had the cold during Christmas itself. Unfortunately, last weekend I was away with friends and it rather ruined the time. And to top it off, the cold has been gone but has been left with a raging cough that particularly gets me overnight.

So this is third night on the trot when I’m up – friends have been over so I didn’t get to bed until midnight. Tomorrow (or rather today) I visit my mums so have to be up at about 8am. But here it is, sometime after 2am, and I’m wide awake, but hacking away (in the coughing sense, rather than the code “cracking” way).

What normally happens is that it settles down after about an hour and I’m back off to bed.

Anyone know anything that helps with this kind of thing? From Simple Linctus to Buttercup Syrup has been tried. And have failed.

It’s Christmas Eve

I slept badly last night… my cold has virtually completely gone, but has left a nasty hacking cough which is what kept me awake. In fact at one point (about 2:45am) I got up for an hour.

A full day at work for me and there’s  a ridiculously long queue for the bacon cobs, which I’m desperate to partake in.

Unlike past Christmas I’ve managed to get my organising all on it’s head – where I normally fall down (cards, getting and wrapping presents, etc) were all sorted early but where I don’t normally have a problem (getting the house ready, presents under the tree, generally making everything feel Christmassy) I’ve cocked up.

I don’t even have a Christmas CD to play :(

And I’m out tonight.

Christmas may be a little more rushed than usual!

Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells…

Ah, barely into October and I’m discussing Christmas already. Well, if Tesco can set up an entire aisle of Christmas snacks then, yes, I can.

We went shopping tonight and because of the aforementioned aisle we’ve started our Christmas shop. Organised, yes, and damn useful. Every week we buy a couple of items we’d normally buy for Christmas – snacks, food items to go towards the Christmas meal, drinks, Christmas tree decorations, advent calendar, etc. And by trickle buying it we hardly notice it in the budget. Oh, and you avoid the last minute rush later on with a sense of self-satisfaction1.

Having said all that, I can’t see the point of the Mince Pies which go out of date in November. Or the Cheese Footballs (a Christmas essential) that only last until the end of December. Some things have to be bought later.

But we did come back with some After Eights and an individual Christmas Pudding (my wife doesn’t like them).

Quality “Back Lane” Christmas

It’s nowhere near Christmas, I know. But a good friend of us last year sent us a video that was created on a slow Christmas Day with some Quality Street and a dash of stop motion.

It’s rather good, so worthy of sharing.
