YouTube Embed has been designed to be as compatible with as many other YouTube embedding plugins as possible. This allows migration to YouTube Embed from an alternative plugin to be as smooth as possible – when you have posts and posts containing shortcodes for one plugin, who wants to change them all to work with another?

Find your plugin from the list below and it will detail how to get their embedding method to work with YouTube Embed. There are a few instances where it’s not possible, often due to is using a unique method which would be hard to code (and justify spending the time!).

However, if you think any of this information is wrong, or I’ve missed a plugin, please let me know via the YouTube Embed forum.

For each plugin I’ve listed the method of embedding a YouTube video – I’ve put parameters in “curly brackets” (e.g. {id} represents a YouTube video ID). Where plugins have differently named parameters you’ll find these will work with YouTube Embed without any changes.

Better YouTube Embeds

Embedding method: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v={id}

By default WordPress will attempt to embed a URL such as this itself. However, to benefit from the full facilities of YouTube Embed, you should go into the General Options screen and switch on the URL Embedding option. This will cause YouTube Embed to take over these embedding methods. You can also assign a default profile to these types of embeds as well.

Embedding method: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v={id}

By default WordPress will attempt to embed a URL such as this itself. However, to benefit from the full facilities of YouTube Embed, you should go into the General Options screen and switch on the URL Embedding option. This will cause YouTube Embed to take over these embedding methods. You can also assign a default profile to these types of embeds as well.
